A REVIEW OF CUSTODIANS OF AFRICAN LITERATURE FIRST EVER OPEN MIC

I believe in the religion called feminism, if you have a problem with it get a GUN!– Kristen Haruna (poet)

Andrew Patience FInye

I dabbled in poetic stuffs when I was in secondary school but I was a science student who didn't studied literature, so I guess I was just a sad and lonely science student with a blue pen and a black book given to me as a gift.

Yesterday was a great day, do you know why? In fact it was outstandingly AWESOME!!! (Excuse my French). I got invited COAL’S (Custodians Of African Literature) Open Mic event, it was my first hearing about COAL and going such event in my life. It is been headed by some young female writers Lola Onigbinde, Andrew Patience FInye, Daisy Odey, Jennifer Dafwat, Farida Adamu, Justina Shemang Obadiah, Patience Attah and Kristen Haruna, who seek to promote Education, African Literature and build up values by using poetry, spoken word, short stories and other forms of creative writings as tools.

Patience Attah my former school mate/close friend/ex-girlfriend (the girlfriend part is not what you think, it’s a long story) invited me to the event and I owe it to her for saving my life from a debilitating boredom. Just imagine how interesting an event created by youths for youths will be. It was so interactive I couldn't believe my eyes, there were also gravity defying performance especially the poetic ones and the girl that sang a Whitney Houston song (men the voice!).

I recorded a few of the performances but my blackberry gave up the ghost lol. I need a real camera! Please bear with me on the quality of the pictures and videos.
